Family Nurse Practitioner
These registered nurses have one-to-two years of advanced education beyond a Bachelor's degree (usually a Master's degree) and are required to pass a national certification exam. In their practice, they diagnose illnesses and prescribe interventions through interview and physical exam, order specific labs and diagnostic testing, and may prescribe medications to patients. Because FNPs are trained to provide care, promote health, and treat disease in patients from childhood through old age, they are trained to diagnose and treat a wide range of diseases.
