Baldwin Harbor, NY
Nurse Educator

I always knew that I wanted to be a nurse. I thought I wanted to be a bedside pediatric nurse, however I found that what I really loved was imparting my knowledge and skills onto student nurses and new graduate nurses.

Seeing someone come into school as a stranger to nursing and watching her graduate as a nurse colleague was an absolutely
wonderful feeling. It's like sending your child off to college, except you send a whole bunch of them off and you do it every year (without the financial ball and chain!). I love taking a group of clinical students to a hospital for a clinical rotation and encountering one of my former students working on that unit as a nurse.

For me, nursing has been full of opportunities and professional development. Presently I am a doctoral student and I coordinate nursing orientation and the clinical rotations of all the nursing students who come to North Shore University Hospital.

Maybe I'll go back into teaching. Maybe I'll stay in the hospital setting. Who knows! One of nursing's greatest beauties is that you can explore different options and develop your career into one that brings you the satisfaction you dreamt of when you entered nursing school.
