West Hollywood, CA
RN, CN III
Last week I coded a 30 year-old patient for three hours... 3
HOURS! Three hours of CPR and pushing drugs. When the code was over
I was mentally and physically exhausted, and I wanted to collapse,
but that would not be possible. You see, I saved the patient and it
was only three hours into my twelve hour shift! Welcome to my
world... During my career, I have specialized in ER, NICU, PICU, all
Adult ICU, Cardio thoracic ICU for Neonates, Pediatrics and Adults,
PACU, and HIV/AIDS Nursing. That took some planning, right? You
would think. I must admit that my broad expertise was 100%
coincidental and had nothing to do with planning. I'd try
something, learn it and move on to the next thing. My family and
friends say that I have adult ADD. All these years later I look
back on my nursing career and cannot believe all that I have
learned and done. Working as a nurse I have traveled to Michigan, Indiana,
Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Alaska, Nevada, California and New
York. I've been honored by the Filipino Heritage International as
Nurse of the Year for 2005. I've been a medical consultant for many
of the shows on television. I've even starred on a reality show for
nurses. I've been able to pursue other interest like traveling,
athletics, performing and most dear to my heart, my volunteer work
for Camp del Corazon (a residential summer camp for children with
heart disease). None of these things would have been possible if it
were not for my nursing career. A career with stability, pay,
scheduling flexibility and coworker support that only nursing has
to offer.
