Bellevue, WA
RN, MSN, Health Science Careers
During high school, I volunteered at a hospital and observed
women in various roles in health care. I chose nursing because it
offered me the opportunity to contribute to the well being and
recovery of ill or injured people in a wide variety of settings. I
graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I have worked in
critical care, post surgical recovery, medical, and psychiatric
nursing. I have also earned a Masters Degree in psychiatric
nursing. I have had flexible schedules, leadership opportunities,
and have had the opportunity to stay home for years at a time to be
with my children. Beyond the physical care nurses provide, there is a unique
relationship with patients which develops from sharing significant
times in the the life of a patient: witnessing a birth, listening
to worries, sitting with the dying, and offering support during
difficult times. The most meaningful and challenging
experience I’ve had during my nursing career was the year I spent
in Vietnam as an army nurse. Currently I am an instructor in a
Health Science Careers program in our local high school. I never
hesitate to encourage students to consider nursing as a career
choice and I always add that, if given the choice, I would do it
all over again.
