Rebeca T.

Edgewood, KY
RN, BSN, CEN, SANE, Nurse Manager, Emergency Department

I am proud to be a nurse, a profession of great challenges and great fulfillment for those who are ready to use their hearts and minds to help people when they need it most. I am also proud to be a Hispanic nurse, because I can nurse in two languages. As a nurse, I am a teacher, healer, and scientist. I fell in love with the ED when I saw the nurses in action. It seemed to me that they were really heroes, unassuming but at the heart of the action. I still get an adrenaline surge when we bring a patient back from the brink of death. Nurses carry tools like the stethoscope, but our greatest tools are our critical thinking skills and our experience. As an ED nurse, I became interested in the care of the sexual assault victim, which requires skill in nursing, forensics, psychology, and even spirituality. I trained as a SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) because the program allows me to treat one patient comprehensively, with dignity and professionalism. Because I am a nurse, and forensically trained, I can provide care to such patients that no other professional in the judicial system can.
