Thabet E.

Fairfax, VA
Student

Nursing was not my initial career choice. I used to be a recreational therapist, working with troubled youths at a reform school, and it was there that I met a male nurse who opened my eyes to the world of nursing. His description of nursing both surprised and intrigued me, and I wanted to learn more. And the more I learned, the more nursing seemed to be the perfect fit for me. Not only is it a career that allows me to continue to help people, but the pay is really good, the hours are flexible, and I can work almost anywhere in the country. Nursing puts you in a position of power and lets you determine your own destiny. The opportunities in nursing are limitless. I plan to work in the emergency room, where the adrenaline level is high and there are new challenges every day. Eventually I’d like to be a nurse practitioner, still in the ER setting. I definitely want to keep close patient contact.
