Jackie V.

New York, NY
RN; Critical Care

I love nursing because I make connections with people every day. I get to know some of my patients extremely well because sometimes they just need someone to listen to them. They tell me about their lives and their families, and I think it alleviates some of the stress of being in a hospital if they feel like they can trust me. Nursing can be a very emotional job. Sometimes I work so hard to help patients heal and it just isn’t enough. It’s hard to see their conditions deteriorate. On the other hand, the best part of the job is saving lives. It makes all of us so happy to see the joy of the family members. They’re so grateful, and that gives me such a wonderful feeling. I always wanted to be a nurse and am completely happy in my job. When I was a child, my parents bought me a toy nurse kit and I loved it. As I grew older, I realized that I had the personality to be a great nurse. I’m compassionate and sensitive and I want to help people all the time no matter where I am. I think I get something extra from being a nurse that I wouldn’t get in any other job. Nursing is within me, and always has been.
